Ghana Must Take Jeffrey Schlupp, Alfred Duncan And Emmanuel Gyasi To The Qatar World Cup.
With a few months to go before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar, there is already pressure building over which Ghanaian players will be called up the 23-man World Cup squad for the Black Stars.
Just last week, former black stars captain and record goal scorer, Asamoah Gyan declared his intentions to be part of the black stars squad and this has sharply divided opinions amongst Ghanaians with those against calling up the Baby Jet insisting that he is not playing active football and more importantly, lacks the needed fitness to deliver for Ghana at the World Cup.
So if the key criteria for selecting Ghana’s playing squad for the World Cup is that the players must be playing actively for their clubs then these 3 players must be guaranteed a spot for in the black stars World Cup squad.
These 3 players are Jeffrey Schlupp of Crystal palace in England, Emmanuel Gyasi who plays for Spezia in the Italian league and Alfred Duncan who also plays in Italy for Fiorentina.
For some reason, these have been overlooked over the past 12 months or more when it comes to the black stars and this is very worrying because they play regularly for their clubs in top European leagues.
Jeffrey Schlupp has been playing regularly for Crystal palace in the English premier league, which is the most competitive league in the world and yet he has not been called up to the black stars since September 2021.
This is totally unacceptable and cannot be justified.
Schlupp has so far started all 3 of Palace’s games so far this season and is in top form.
He is already among players who have made the most tackles in the English Premier league so far this season.
If there is any player who is best qualified to make Ghana’s squad for Qatar, he should be top of the list alongside Thomas Partey
For Alfred Duncan who recently achieved the impressive milestone of 250 appearances in the Italian Serie A, the reasons for his absence from the black stars has attracted controversy with GFA President Kurt Okraku alleging that Duncan has had opportunities to play for Ghana and he did not respond but player fired back on Twitter saying people are tarnishing his image in Ghana and warned that those people should respect themselves or he will start talking for Ghanaians to know what is really behind his absence from the black stars.
The back and forth allegations are unfortunate but no matter what it is, a midfielder with the ability and experience of Alfred Duncan cannot be overlooked for the upcoming World Cup and so whatever issues that exist must be solved by the GFA for the player to return to the black stars.
Ghana needs our best players for the World Cup and Alfred Duncan is one of our very best players who is playing consistently in a top European league
Emmanuel Gyasi of Spezia is also a regular for his club in the Italian top flight. In fact, he is currently the captain of Spezia and has been a guaranteed starter since last season but he does not get called up to the black stars.
Which is ridiculous considering the fact that he plays consistently in one of the best leagues in the world. In fact, Emmanuel Gyasi started 35 out of Spezia’s 38 league games last season.
How can Ghana sideline such a player?
It is important that the Ghana football association and the black stars management committee do whatever it takes to get these 3 players back to the black stars.
We have had enough of these issues of players refusing to play for Ghana due to unfair treatment by officials and this must stop.
Ghana cannot afford to fail at the upcoming Qatar World Cup especially after our absence at the last World Cup and so it is vital that we take our very best players to the tournament and Jeffrey Schlupp, Alfred Duncan and Emmanuel Gyasi are three of our very best players who are actually playing regularly in top European leagues.
