Ghanaians on Twitter descend on Citi FM owner for comment on budget

The owner of Citi FM and TV, Samuel Attah-Mensah has received heavy backlash from some Ghanaians on Twitter after he made a tweet concerning the general reaction to the budget reading yesterday.

According to Sammens, as he is popularly called, some Ghanaians are opposing portions of the budget without reason and engaging in “borla politics”.

Here’s the full tweet by Sammens in quotes

“When will Ghana be the agenda? The budget is read and suddenly we have to start opposing without reason. Other countries are going ahead of us when indeed we are smarter than them just because of borla politics. Let’s calm down and reason together. God bless our homeland Ghana”

The replies of the tweet was swift with many accusing Sammens of hypocrisy and wondering where he was when in 2016, the NPP and Dr Bawumia were attacking the Mahama government of imposing nuisance taxes on Ghanaians and promising to move Ghana away from taxation to production.

Indeed, the MP for Adaklu, Kwame Agbodza joined in to ask if Sammens would have made the same statement back in 2016
