Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of having “inferiority complex” and “not showing sportsmanship” after it appeared that the Manchester United and Portuguese star endorsed a post on Instagram by a fan claiming Messi does not deserve this year’s Balon d’Or award.
Lionel Messi who won a recording-breaking seventh Balon d’Or two days ago has been greeted with vocal opposition from fans, ex-professionals and current professionals in support of Robert Lewandowski after the Polish forward was denied the accolade despite a stellar 2021.
A Ronaldo fan posted a passionate plea supporting Ronaldo whilst listing all of his achievements this calendar year and claiming Messi did not deserve the coveted award.
The 36-year old liked the post and commented with the word “factos” with thumbs up and an eye wandering emoji.
The Manchester United superstar is now being called out online and has been accused of hypocrisy, especially after coming out to debunk claims by Balon d’Or organiser and editor-in-chief of France Football Pascal Ferre, who said; “Ronaldo has only one ambition and that is to retire with more balon’dor than Lionel Messi. I know that because he has told me”.
Ronaldo had earlier claimed on his Instagram handle that Pascal Ferre is lying and that he (Ronaldo) has always congratulated those who win within sportsmanship and fair play that guided him right from the beginning of his career and he does so because he is never against anyone.
Cristiano Ronaldo who has won five balon’dors during his illustrious career, the most recent of which came back in 2017 has continued to face backlash from fans online.
