Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Kwame Nii-Lante Lamptey has switched his international allegiance from England to Ghana.
Born in Hillingdon, United Kingdom, Tariq has since represented the English national youth teams featuring in about 20 games in total.
Tariq has been in the raider of the Ghana Football Association since 2020 even before he first featured for the English U18 on 8th September 2020. He has since been in touch with with the management of the Black Stars over the potential switch of his nationality.
In July 2022, Kurt Okraku, president of the Ghana Football Association met with Tariq and revealed he is one of the many players considering switching allegiance to Ghana.
Tariq Lamptey has featured in 51 games for Brighton and Hove Albion scoring once in his 3 years with the English Club.
The switch comes as a boost for the Ghana Black Stars ahead of this year’s World Cup in Qatar, where they have been grouped alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea. The 2022 World Cup tournament kicks off on Nov. 21.
